Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Diez ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Diez dating service, including our website (diezapp.com), our web application, and our mobile apps (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: your email address and password (stored in an encrypted form), and your subscription status (free or premium).
- Profile information: your name, date of birth, gender, city and state, a short bio, your interests, and up to six photos. Photos you add are stored so they can be shown to other members.
- Location: if you choose to share your location for matching, we collect your approximate location to suggest nearby members. You can stop sharing location at any time.
- Content and communications: messages you send and receive through the Service, and any content you submit when reporting another member.
- Payment information: if you subscribe to premium, payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not collect or store your full card number.
Information we collect automatically:
- Usage information: how you interact with the Service (for example, profiles you view and rate, and features you use).
- Device and technical information: device type, operating system, app version, and similar technical details, as well as log data such as IP address and timestamps, which we use to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To operate the Service: creating and managing your account, showing you profiles, facilitating matches and conversations, and providing premium features.
- To personalize your experience: using your stated interests and location to suggest more relevant profiles.
- Safety and moderation: reviewing reported content and accounts to enforce our terms and keep the Service safe, which includes showing all profile photos to our moderation team when a profile is reported.
- Communications: sending you account-related notices (for example, verification or password emails).
- Legal compliance and security: detecting fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and complying with applicable law.
3. How We Share Your Information
- With other members: your public profile (name, age, location, bio, interests, and the photos you choose to share) is visible to other members you interact with. On the free plan, only two of your photos are visible to other members; upgrading to premium makes all six visible.
- With service providers: we work with trusted providers who help us run the Service, including hosting, cloud storage for photos, email delivery, and payment processing. These providers only process your information to provide services to us and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- For legal reasons: we may disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Business transfers: if Diez is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Your Choices and Rights
To request deletion of your account and data, use our data deletion request form (no login required), or contact us at the address below.
- Edit your profile: you can update or remove your profile information and photos at any time from within the app.
- Location: you can revoke location access at any time through your device settings or the app.
- Opt out of communications: you can opt out of non-essential communications at any time.
- Access, correction, and deletion: depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, and to request that we stop processing it. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within the timeframe required by law.
- Account deletion: you can request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us. When your account is deleted, your profile and messages are removed from the Service.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward where needed for legal, accounting, or security purposes (for example, to investigate reports or comply with legal obligations). When we delete your account, we remove your profile data and messages. Backups and logs are deleted in accordance with our internal retention schedules.
6. Children's Privacy
Diez is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Data Transfers
Diez is operated from the United States, and your information may be processed and stored on servers in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in these locations.
9. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
